Reflecting on George Floyd
One year ago, the murder of George Floyd caused a new reckoning around systemic racism in America. In the aftermath of this tragedy, CMLS declared its commitment to speak out against racial injustice and fight for fairness in our legal system. While there has now been accountability for George Floyd’s murder, much work remains to be done to eliminate systemic racism in our justice system and the communities we serve.
CMLS has spent the last year engaging in difficult conversations on race and racial inequality and has engaged in an examination of our own organizational practices and policies to address inequities. We know there is more work to do, both within our organization and the justice system in which we work, to continue making progress toward racial equality.
Today CMLS honors the life of George Floyd and reaffirms our commitment to the partners and communities we serve in working to advance racial justice in our legal system.
