It’s Tax Season!

You’ve made it through the holidays but now you have to prepare your taxes. Do you need help with taxes?

CMLS sees tax issues arise in many of our cases. Maybe you have a custody order that says who’s allowed to claim the dependent child(ren) but the order isn’t being followed and you don’t know what to do about it. Maybe your taxes are being garnished. Maybe you’re facing something more serious and you’ve received notices from the IRS. Maybe you just need some general help with filing. Here’s some information that you may find helpful:

CMLS attorneys may be able to advise you on or provide information and resources on tax issues related to your family law, employment or benefits case. Contact CMLS for more information.

Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid (MMLA) offers a Low Income Taxpayer Clinic to help people with Federal IRS tax disputes. They cannot assist with Minnesota state tax issues. They can help with things like eliminating or settling tax debts, applying for a payment plan, preventing or stopping garnishments, responding to IRS notices, and resolving issues of identity theft. You do need to financially qualify for these services. Contact MMLA at 612-334-5970 for more details.

If you need help preparing your taxes, Prepare + Prosper may be able to assist you. You will need to qualify financially for their services as well. Visit their website for information or to apply.
