Kandiyohi County Debt Clinic
Clients are pre-screened for this clinic by Central Minnesota Legal Service's intake. Clients can participate by calling the Willmar CMLS front office staff at (320) 253-7662, or 1-800- 622-4011. Individuals are often also referred to the local Credit Clinic by other staff members or community advocates. This clinic is open to residents of Chippewa, Kandiyohi, Meeker and Renville counties only.
The typical client for the Credit Clinic is either someone who is employed but on some kind of public benefits, such as Social Security Disability (RSDI), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), MFIP, Medical Assistance, Fuel Assistance, etc., or is someone not employed and solely on public benefits. A client may be working; however, he or she has been on some type of public assistance sometime within the last six months.
Clients may have debts relating to credit cards, medical bills, personal loans, car loans, utility bills, cell phone bills, bad checks, ordering magazines, etc. Individuals having problems making their mortgage payments are usually referred to a real estate attorney for advice.
Scheduled appointments with pro bono attorneys can be done in person or by phone, depending on where clients live within the four-county service area.
Clinics are held on the 4th Wednesday of every month, from noon until 1:00 p.m. at the CMLS Willmar office.
